In Sydney, as the population has increased and the demographic composition changes so have the significant community resource constraints.

Basketball is the number two sport globally with over 200 countries

participating and over 450 million players. According to research by

Sweeney Sports, one in three Australians has an interest in basketball.

According to Basketball Australia, as of March 2014, basketball is the

second highest team participation sport in Australia.

As a result of this renewed interest in the sport we are proposing a design

for a sports hall which encapsulates two indoor basketball courts and

associated program. The North Everleigh site is currently vacant land

owned by TFNSW except for the Carriageworks Clothing Hall which is

used as exhibition space from time to time. Future development of the

site will most likely be for residential use, so we are proposing a temporary

intervention (15 years) for the building. For this reason, and more funda-

mentally to support our transition to the Circular Economy, you are asked

to consider Design for Disassembly (DfD) in your sports hall scheme.
